Lirios Pediatrics
Aug. 21, 2025
Monica Simmons began her career with a B.A. in Communications, gaining diverse experience at UPS, as a licensed insurance agent, and at the University of Missouri School of Nursing’s Department of Research, where she managed graduate students and supported NIH grant preparation. Inspired to pursue a more direct role in patient care, she returned to school to become a Registered Nurse, later earning a Certification in Pediatric Nursing and a master's degree in Leadership in Health Care Organizations. Over the past 20 years, Monica has built a robust healthcare career in hospital settings such as Boston Children’s Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital, where she developed deep pediatric clinical expertise and leadership skills. In 2022, driven by a desire to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and their families, Monica co-founded Lirios Pediatrics, a nonprofit clinic providing free, high-quality medical and mental health care to uninsured children in Central Texas. The only clinic of its kind in TX, the work being done at Lirios is more important than ever, ensuring that all children have access to the high quality care they need to grow and thrive.
Outside of work, Monica enjoys spending time with her husband, Joe, their dog Henri, and her elderly parents who live with them. She also enjoys reading, hiking, and cooking. In 2022, Monica and Joe became proud grandparents to twin boys, welcomed by their daughter Emily and son-in-law Tommy.
