DAVID VALDEZ, WHITE HOUSE PHOTOGRAPHER
Upon graduation from high school, David Valdez enlisted in the US Air Force where he was trained as a photographer. Following four years of active duty, Mr. Valdez entered the University of Maryland at College Park. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in journalism and a minor in radio & television production. While attending the University of Maryland, he was employed by the US Department of Agriculture and the US Department of Housing & Urban Development. He left the Federal Government to become Chief Photographer for the US Chamber of Commerce.
In 1983, Mr. Valdez became personal photographer to then Vice President George H.W. Bush. In 1988, when Mr. Bush became President, he appointed Mr. Valdez as Director of the White House Photo Office. After travelling to 75 countries and all 50 states with President Bush, Mr. Valdez left the White House in 1993.
